Visiting the Wine Route in Alsace

The Alsace Wine Route is a famous tourist route that crosses the Alsace wine region. It stretches approximately 170 kilometers from north to south, passing through vineyards and picturesque villages. The landscapes are magnificent, with vine-covered hills, medieval villages, and castles.

Visiting the Alsace Wine Route is the perfect way to discover the history and production of wine. Along the route, you’ll find numerous wineries and estates where you can taste local wines. Many wineries offer guided tours and tastings, allowing visitors to learn about different grape varieties and winemaking techniques. Which villages to visit on the Alsace Wine Route?

Saint-Hippolyte: A charming little village with 1,000 inhabitants and several wine cellars to visit. Known for its exceptional red wines, the village of Saint-Hippolyte is ideally located for visiting other villages along the wine route.

RibeauvillĂ©: Located near Saint-Hippolyte, RibeauvillĂ© is another charming medieval village. Its narrow streets are full of well-preserved half-timbered houses, artisan shops, and wine cellars. Don’t miss the Château de Saint-Ulrich and the Château du Girsberg, which overlook the village.

Riquewihr: Probably one of the most famous and picturesque villages in Alsace, renowned for its colorful half-timbered houses, cobbled streets, and medieval atmosphere. It is also known for its wines, particularly Gewurztraminer.

Kaysersberg: Voted France’s favorite village in 2017, Kaysersberg is a medieval gem nestled in the heart of the vineyards. With its picturesque houses, winding river, and impressive ruined castle, Kaysersberg is an ideal place for strolling and tasting local wines.

Eguisheim: Listed as one of the “Most Beautiful Villages of France,” Eguisheim is famous for its traditional Alsatian architecture, narrow streets, and warm atmosphere. Stroll the cobbled streets in a concentric circle around the castle and stop at one of the wine cellars to taste the region’s wines.

Hunawihr: This picturesque little village is surrounded by vineyards and is famous for its fortified church and butterfly garden. It’s a peaceful place for a leisurely stroll and wine tasting in the local cellars.

An ideal day in the heart of Alsace, according to our team

Start your morning with a stroll through the charming village of Riquewihr. Famous for its cobbled streets, half-timbered houses, and timeless atmosphere, it’s particularly pleasant to explore early, before the crowds arrive. Don’t miss its museums, small shops, and typical Alsatian architecture.

Following the Wine Route, enjoy the rolling landscapes and vineyards as far as the eye can see until you reach the village of Saint-Hippolyte. For lunch, we recommend two authentic restaurants: Le Hupsa Pfannala in Saint-Hippolyte, or Chez Helmut in Rorschwihr, where you can enjoy Alsatian specialties in a warm atmosphere.

In the afternoon, explore the impressive Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg, perched on its rocky spur. A must-see visit to admire the panoramic view and delve into the region’s medieval history.

At 4 p.m., head to our estate for a guided tour of the cellar, followed by a guided tasting of our Alsace wines. End this beautiful day in peace on our terrace or in the garden, with a glass of wine accompanied by a platter of local charcuterie and cheese.

Immerse yourself in medieval history by visiting the majestic Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle. A visit of approximately 1.5 hours will allow you to step back in time in one of the region’s most iconic castles.

Nearby, enjoy the great outdoors to discover the Monkey Mountain, where you can observe macaques in the wild, and the Eagle Volery, which offers impressive displays of birds of prey in flight.

Still on the theme of animals, head to Hunawihr to visit the Naturoparc, a refuge for local and endangered species. of disappearance, as well as the Butterfly Garden, a magical tropical greenhouse populated by exotic butterflies.

Looking for thrills for young and old? Head to Cigoland in Kintzheim, ideal for younger visitors, or the Parc du Petit Prince in Ungersheim. And for an unforgettable day, don’t miss Europa-Park, one of Europe’s best amusement parks, located just across the German border.

Finally, for a true journey back in time, visit the Ecomuseum of Alsace in Ungersheim, a reconstructed Alsatian village with its traditions, artisans, and half-timbered houses.
